Tres Lagos is a rural village in the Lago Argentino department, on RN 40. Its name (“Three Lakes”) comes from its location at the crossroads leading to lakes Viedma, Tar and San Martín.
What to see
- Piedra Clavada: a rock formation more than 20 m tall that seems to defy gravity, overlooking the Shehuen River.
- A petrified forest 20 km to the southeast that the province describes as the southernmost in South America, about 90 million years old.
- Sites with petroglyphs and rock art, the Tres Lagos lookout and a fitness trail.
Access and guided tours: check before you travel at Turismo Santa Cruz – Tres Lagos.
