Jaramillo and Fitz Roy are just 19 km apart and were both stations on the Patagonian Railway. They have corrugated iron and timber buildings, and stone houses built by stonemasons in the early 1900s.
What to see
- Restored railway stations and site museums, including the first school declared Cultural Heritage of the Province.
- “La Era del Hielo” (Ice Age) theme museum, with fossils found in 2007.
- The place where José Font, “Facón Grande”, one of the leaders of the 1921 rural strikes, was killed. This is where the provincial 1921 Strike circuit ends; it starts in Gobernador Gregores.
- Bahía Mazaredo, on the coast.
- Access to Bosques Petrificados de Jaramillo National Park.
Getting there
Via RN 3; the nearest airport is Comodoro Rivadavia. RP 27 runs from Fitz Roy to Puerto Deseado, and the province recommends filling up here before heading to the Petrified Forests.
