Gobernador Gregores sits in the center of the province, in the Río Chico valley. According to the province, it was a stopping place for the Aonikenk people until the early 20th century; today it's a strategic base for reaching Perito Moreno National Park (115,000 ha) and a hub for sport fishing at Lake Cardiel and Lake Strobel, known among international anglers as “Jurassic Lake”.
